    Size per baseplate

Studs sit 8 mm apart, so the baseplate you pick sets the size of the finished mosaic, and every stud takes one piece.

    How many pieces you need

A 48 × 48 mosaic takes 2,304 pieces, and the parts list splits them by color so you can check what you have before buying. A set you already own rarely has enough of each color for a new picture: untick the colors you don't have under “only colors I own” to make the most of the pieces in your box.

    Round or square pieces

Square 1×1 pieces fill each cell edge to edge for a smooth, pixel-like picture. Round 1×1 pieces leave small gaps where the baseplate shows through, which gives a dotted look; a dark or neutral baseplate helps. The choice changes only the preview and the parts list, not the colors.

    How to build it

    1. Print the PDF: a map of the numbered baseplates, then one page per plate with coordinates.
    2. Sort the pieces by color into small trays before you start.
    3. Fill one plate at a time, row by row from the top left, and tick each row off on the page.
    4. Join the plates with plates across the back, or mount them on a board to hang.

    Colors and brand names

The palette is a set of approximate brick colors. A screen will not match the plastic exactly, so check the color names in the list before you buy.

    Questions

Is this an official mosaic maker?

No. Pixelplan is an independent free tool for LEGO® bricks and compatible pieces. It needs no account, and the photo never leaves your device.

How big should a brick mosaic be?

48 × 48 studs (38.4 cm, about 15 in) suits a face; 16 or 32 studs suit simple shapes and logos. Bigger means more detail and many more pieces.

How many pieces are in a 48 × 48 mosaic?

2,304 one-by-one pieces, one per stud, plus the baseplates. The parts list splits them by color.

Can I use only the colors I already have?

Yes. Untick the colors you don't own and the mosaic is made from the rest. Fewer colors lose some detail, so try a couple of settings.

Round or square pieces: which looks better?

Square gives a smooth image, round a dotted, more playful look. The preview shows either one before you buy anything.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes: choose or take a photo, crop it with a finger, zoom into the plan and download the PDF.
